Palazzo Pitti is the largest palace in Florence, built in 1457 by banker/merchant Luca Pitti to outdo his rivals the prominent Medici family. Unfortunately for him, by the time the palace was finished, his wealth was on the decline and the palace was bought by the Medici family! While Florence was the capital of Italy from 1865 – 1870 the royal family resided here. The Palazzo is now home to eight museums – of which we visited 3.
Walking through the gardens
The roses were out
And the peonies ♡
We walked around the area and found the old city wall
City wall covered in Ivy
And stopped for Gelato on our way back – this nocciola gelato was the smallest serve for 1.90! Very generous!
Aaron tried panna cotta and arancia rossa
It all looks so amazing!! Especially the peonies ;0)
